HISTORY
The world held its breath on September 11, 2001.
Men and women answered the call to duty and gave their lives selflessly for others, it was their belief and duty to serve.
It is the understanding of the global community to remember and recognise the service and sacrifice that initiated the Tour of Duty event.
In 2010, the Tour of Duty Run was an emotional statement.
Australian and American fire-fighters and police united for a relay run across the United States from Los Angeles to New York. The run finished at the site of World Trade Centre - itself a symbol of renewal, remembrance and collective will. The run was to acknowledge the bravery of the 411 first responders who lost their lives serving their city. We also remembered the civilians who were taken from us whilst doing their jobs and the Pilots and people aboard the planes during the attacks. We will never forget 9/11 , We will never forget the people of 9/11.
In 2012, the Tour of Duty Ride across America was to acknowledge and celebrate the service of our military and the amazing alliance that exists between our two nations.
The team of cyclists form Australia and America consisted of Military , Police and Fire fighters and began from the USS Midway in San Diego and finished at the Intrepid in New York City.
Since WW1 , Australia has stood by the USA as an ally at every major conflict to this day .
In 2013 , the Tour of Duty Golf celebrity classic aims to reveal the admiration and respect we hold for the selfless acts of courage and the shared values of our service personnel throughout the world. It pays tribute to the people who responded to Newtown, Boston and the attacks on September 11 in New York and Washington DC, and to those who continue to serve in the fight for security and peace. Celebrities will group with military and first responders including Newtown and Boston.
Our military, fire-fighters and emergency service workers sacrifice their lives each and every day in order for us to enjoy a level of comfort and freedom which are often taken for granted.
The Tour of Duty events are a statement of hope for the future of a world consumed by financial gloom and terrorist alerts. The event reflects the supreme values of humanity, mateship, camaraderie and courage.
